Christian Prayer & the Law of Attraction
Much has been written lately of The Law of Attraction since the movie The Secret. Many Christians have been wary of the Law of Attraction as the New Age Movement has claimed “discovery” of this concept. Of course, the other huge problem with movies like The Secret is that there is no acknowledgment the power of God, Jesus Christ, or the Holy Spirit. And, as Christians, we know that all power comes from God, our Lord Jesus Christ & the Holy Spirit. “Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life.”
John 3:6 (New Living Translation)-Jesus
But what is the Law of Attraction? Is it possible that a Christian can use it in prayer for a spiritual, productive life which glorifies God?
The Law of Attraction is basically based on the idea that we are electromagnetic beings. Our thoughts and words have power and influence the natural and supernatural world. What we think about, we bring about.
If our thoughts are energy, they influence us and others, and the world. According to the Law of Attraction, like thoughts attracts like results in the physical world. Therefore, a person is to concentrate on a “higher vibration.” Love and Gratitude are the highest forms of emotional energy.
Are any of these concepts supported by the Bible? Yes, absolutely. In fact, “The Secret” is no “secret” at all. The New Testament and written word of Jesus have much to say which is similar to the Law of Attraction.
As this writer understands it, the Law of Attraction, the Law of Creating & the Law of Allowing as the New Age Movement represents it states basically:
Be Grateful, Ask, Believe, Receive/Allow
These concepts are exactly what the New Testament proclaims.
The BIG difference is, as Christians, we ask in Jesus’ name, receive power from the Holy Spirit & give the Glory to God!
To exercise the Law of Attraction as Christians, we must follow the following steps. Do not focus only on wealth and material possessions, but also on things which eternally matter: How much we love God, become more like Christ, and how we love others.
These steps were also used by some of the great Christian faith healers in history. The power of the Holy Spirit can change our lives if we change our prayer life.
STEP ONE: BE GRATEFUL
We come to God in morning prayer in Praise & Worship to God for His Awe & Wonder and for all of our blessings–big & small. Gratitude to God for all things– from our healthy children to a good cup of coffee, we then open our hearts to receive more blessings from God and power from the Holy Spirit.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (New Living Translation) 16 Always be joyful. 17 Never stop praying. 18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
Colossians 3:15 (New Living Translation) 15 And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.
Colossians 3:17 (New Living Translation) 17 And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.
Colossians 4:2 (New Living Translation) 2 Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.
STEP TWO: ASK IN PRAYER, IN THE NAME OF JESUS
If what we ask is in alignment with God’s will, we will receive. This isn’t my opinion; Jesus said it over and over again.
John 16:24 (New Living Translation) 16 “You haven’t done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy.”-Jesus
Luke 11:10 (New Living Translation) 10 “For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened”.-Jesus
Mark 14:36 (New Living Translation) 36 “Abba, Father, he cried out, “everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”-Jesus
Matthew 7:7-8 (New Living Translation) 7 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. -Jesus
STEP THREE: HAVE FAITH
What is faith? Faith is the “belief that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him..By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.” (Hebrews 11:4-10)
Faith without doubt allows you to receive the power of the Holy Spirit.
Faith is the belief that “Whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” Mark 11:24-Jesus
(Hebrews 11:1) King James Version 11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Matthew 9:29 (New International Version) 29 Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith will it be done to you”-Jesus
Luke 17:6 (New International Version) 6 He replied, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.”-Jesus
Luke 8:48 (New International Version) 48 hen he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.” -Jesus
Matthew 17:20 (New International Version) 20 He replied, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” -Jesus
Matthew 21:22 (New Living Translation) 22 “You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.” Jesus
STEP FOUR: BELIEVE & RECEIVE GOD’S BLESSINGS & THE HOLY SPIRIT
This is the tough part! Believing & Receiving. We always think we have to earn God’s gifts. But, God is good! He gives us His Blessings if only we ask!
Matthew 25:23 (New International Version) 23 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ -Jesus
Acts 10:38 (New Living Translation) 38 And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.
Galatians 5:22-23 (New Living Translation) 22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control.
Romans 15:13 (New Living Translation) 3 I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
John 14:16-18 (New Living Translation) 16 “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him.”-Jesus
Christians need not fear the concepts in the Law of Attractio as long as we recognize that God is the Source of all Power. For more information, see [http://www.energyhealingconnection.com]
